Me My Locks and I Six (Lili)

I have been tightening Lili's hair for a couple of month's now and they just kind of were doing their own thing while they grew out. I started her locks out really tiny with just simple braids like I did my own hair. I wanted to post some pictures of her since she seems to like the camera and let you see the process.
I will tell you one thing I will never wait over six weeks again to tighten her hair as she has more of her dad's hair texture which is curly and silky so she has the cutest curls on the ends
of her hair naturally that adds a fun kind of personality to her hair.
Well after about three days of tightening in between all of the other stuff that I do I was finally done and she looked so cute with her glasses and her locks. She officially has a bang and it looks like a simple bob. I love it.
So here we are out and about and Imani snapped photos of us grinning like Chesire cats. I think she like her locks. She told me yesterday that she likes being different cause that makes her special.
Lili loves to swing her locks too which I think is a hoot. I love to see her happy and smile when I put barrettes in her hair or put the hair sheen on it by Just For Me"
You must admit don't we look happy? I almost look like a kid myself except for the dark circles under my eyes from too much fun I had this weekend with the auction I went to but more on that later.
For now I just wanted to take a picture with my five year old and let you all see how cute she is with her locks.

My Hair Regimen

I have been getting a lot of people that ask me what I use on my hair to keep it looking so healthy. First off let me say this, pictures can be deceiving but thanks for the compliment! Secondly I thought since I was in the process of buying my shampoo and conditioners again I would snap a picture of what I use.
Now in terms of what I do to get the size of my locks the way I did was microbraiding my own hair from a perm and that was it. I let it go from there. It was not that hard since I wore micros more than I did anything else and felt more comfortable with them as opposed to a perm which because of the texture of my hair tore it out since I have three different textures. Very curly and fine in the back, on the side kinky curly and thick and wiry on top. So I was getting a super duper perm and it was burning my edges and the back of my head constantly to the point my hair stayed short because I didn't understand how complex my hair was and my mom's only response was "you need beer let's wash it with beer" So we washed it with beer. We bought super grow products out of the back of Jet and Ebony magazine that according to the pictures they showed promised long and shiny locks if you just bought this product and used it. So my mom bought it and we used it and nothing happened. What was worse was she and my great aunt wore their hair in two ponytails until Momma got sick of it and whacked it off to be cool. But not Aunt Teedee she wanted to prove her ethnicity. Lolol I don't get it. So my siblings got momma's hair, I got my dad's how lovely.
Now my hair is starting to touch the middle of my back and past my shoulders. With no help from beer, fake products ordered from the back of magazines, no creamy crack promising you whispy fine hair that will blow in the wind and no hot combs to burn your ears and forehead on picture day when you are in the second grade. How cool is that?
Here are the products I currently use to make sure that I my hair is conditioned and well oiled without being weighed down.
Hydroveil Moisturizing 2 in 1 Shampoo with Peppermint Oil and Jojoba Oil and Hydroveil Scalp and Hair mist with Echinacea. With the shampoo what I do is just use a little bit mixed with water to loosen the concentration. That way I won't have build up in my hair. What I have found out is that what I thought was lint was shampoo buildup. So I eased up on the concentrated version and just watered it down. After a good shampoo I just spray my hair down with the Hydroveil Hair Mist with the Echinacea which is clear. I say that because again I am learning that the less you put on your hair in terms of products the less build up you get which is great cause locks can pick up anything.
So here is a picture of my favorite products and some glossing I use on Lili's locks.
Remember if you are going to be natural take care of your hair just like you would if it were permed. Low maintenance is not NO Maintenance.

New Shelves, Mad Teenager

Hard working KJ

New shelves whoo hooo!

New Shelves amidst the tables I was using

I remember when I was a teen my parents pretty much allowed me to have a life of my own within the confines of school activities. I try my best to follow their rules for mine but things are getting a bit whacked out because my fourteen year old is like I was in school. Imani wants to be into everything social like dance and basketball and concert choir. Which keeps me feeling like a chauffeur since this area has no public transportation. I try to support her but with my business I am starting to need her more and more as things grow. So yesterday I went to pick her up from school before her little drill team practice so she could help out with new items that consignors had brought in. Poor thing she was so upset I knew she was literally near tears because if you don't practice you don't perform and Imani never misses practice but today it was a must do.
I was not sure if I was upset or angry that she was upset and angry but there were times my parents needed me and guess what family comes first and that is what she needed to learn. By all accounts Imani is like my tall little personal assistant who helps with her siblings and around the house while I work so she's not a bad kid, but I think the chauffeuring back and forth is wearing me thing.
So last night we didn't make it home til about 11 or so and I had not cooked or anything until we got home. I must say it was worth it though I finally got some shelves in yesterday and more on the way. It was exciting and interesting because the moment we put them up and started arranging things the store suddenly became something else. It wasn't just a Swap Shop it is becoming a place with good, quality items to look through.
Finally...it looks like it's going somewhere and Imani and the kids will be right there for the ride whether they like it or not.

Me My Locks and KJ

So I just took these pictures of my son and I. I love how my locks look in this picture. So natural and carefree while I get my son ready for his bath. I mean I know that's silly but when Imani and Timeka were babies I was tying my hair up to keep it from getting wet while they bathed for fear that my fabulously spritzed updo would not make it. Not today.
Now don't I look like I am at peace and happy with this moment?
All I did for the day was get up oil my scalp and rub a bit of oil and water onto my locks for shine. That was it. I think that's what one should do but that's just me. My locks from one day to the next have done so much for my self esteem and what I think is beautiful on ME.
